General information about Vemox 250 in USA
Vemox 250 (amoxicillin) is a moderate spectrum antibiotic for cats and dogs belonging to the penicillin class. This drug inhibits the growth of bacteria by preventing the cell wall of bacterial cells from forming. Amoxicillin should be used only to treat bacterial infections and not for viral and parasitic infections.
Amoxicillin comes in the trihydrate form which is the active ingredient in these capsules. Amoxicillin spreads easily into all tissues and body fluids, except the brain and cerebrospinal fluid, thus ensuring wide coverage.
Precaution
This antibiotic for dogs and cats should only be used in cases that have proven to be bacterial infections. It should not be used in animals that are hypersensitive to penicillin and on animals raised for meat as amoxicillin is binding in protein nature. Amoxicillin tablets are contraindicative with certain drugs such as allopurinol and erythromycin. The capsules are slow dissolving therefore it might take some time for the animal to show tangible signs of improvement.
