Thyro3 (T3, Cytomel) by Alpha-Pharma Healthcare. Cytomel is the synthetic form of T-3/Liothyronine and was a commonly known trade or brand among athletes. T-3 (Liothyronine) is used as a form of thyroid hormone therapy. Most bodybuilders have preferred this drug over synthetic forms of T-4 (levothyroxine) due to its vastly superior level of activity.

Abuse of synthetic thyro3 will result in severe suppression of natural (endogenous) thyroid function. This is especially true of this drug, as it actually bypasses the normal process of making thyroid hormone the body uses to produce endogenous forms as needed. Simplified this is because Thyro3 is the most potent thyroid hormone so the body shuts down every level required for production in an attempt to reduce circulating levels of Thyro3. Of course, this does not reduce the level if the hormone is administered exogenously (from outside the body).

Since long term use of Thyro3 will lead to suppression of thyroid function the issue of rebound should be discussed briefly. It is commonly believed that the abuse of synthetic thyroid hormones will lead to permanent dysfunction of the thyroid gland.

Excess thyroid hormone can cause a wide range of side effects ranging from: headaches, mood swings – irritability, nervousness, anxiety, sweating, abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations, chest pain, diarrhea, menstrual irregularities , worsening heart failure, shock. A massive overdose can lead to symptoms resembling a thyroid storm. A chronic overdose will produce the signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
