Description

General information about Insulin 100IU in Belgium

Insulin lowers blood glucose levels, improves tissue digestion of glucose, stimulates lipogenesis, glycogenesis, protein synthesis, reduces the rate of glucose production in the liver.

Pharmacokinetics:

When injected under the skin, the drug begins to act within 30 minutes, reaches its maximum effect in the period of 1-3 hours after the injection. Duration of action: 8 hours.
The profile of drug action is dose-dependent and reflects significant individual characteristics.

Indications:

Type I diabetes mellitus: (insulin-dependent) in children and adults.
Diabetes mellitus type II: (non-insulin dependent) stage of resistance to oral hypoglycemics, particular drug resistance (combination therapy), underlying diseases, surgical procedures (mono or combination therapy) and type II diabetes in women pregnant women.

Contraindications:

Hypoglycemia, drug hypersensitivity based on human insulin.

Methods of administration and dosage:

Dosage and route of administration are set individually in each case:
The drug is administered subcutaneously, IM or IV.
In the case of monotherapy, the drug is administered 3 times a day or up to 5-6 times if necessary.
If the daily dose exceeds 0.6 IU / Kg, H bio R insulin is injected twice or more times a day in different parts of the body.

Special notes:

It is advisable to hospitalize patients receiving more than 100 IU of insulin per day.
In the case of substitution of one preparation containing insulin for another, the substitution of drugs containing insulin should be carried out under the control of blood sugar levels.
When administering the drug for the first time, special care should be taken for mental stress and the ability to use machines.
The dose should be corrected by changing the character and mode of feeding, severe physical stress, infectious diseases, surgical procedures, thyroid dysfunction, Addison's disease, hypo-pituitarism, renal failure and patients over 62 years old.

Drugs interactions:

The hypoglycemic effect of insulin H bio R is reinforced by:

• MAO inhibitors
• Certain selective beta-blockers
• Sulfonamide preparations
• Anabolic Steroids
• Antibiotics and tetracycline group
• Clofibrates
• Cyclophosphamide
• Phenfluramine
• Medicines containing ethanol

The hypoglycemic effect of insulin H bio R is reduced by:

Oral contraceptives
Glucocorticoids
Thyroid hormones
Thiazide diuretics
Heparin
Preparations containing lithium
Tricyclic antidepressants
Reserpin & salicylates can also increase or decrease the effect of the medicine.

Side effects in Belgium:

Influence of carbohydrate metabolism:

• Hypoglycemic state (pallor of the integuments, intensification of diaphoresis, palpitations, tremors)
• Allergic responses: Very rare skin rash.
• Side reactions: lipo-dystrophy at sites of drug administration (long term)

Other: temporal reflection disorders (usually at the start of therapy)

Overdose:

In case of overdose, the development of a hypoglycemic state is possible. The initial symptoms of the hypoglycemic state are as follows:

Diaphoresis intensification

• Palpitation
• Tremor
• sense of hunger
• Pallor
• Headache

In severe cases, the development of hypoglycemic coma is possible. 20-40 ml of 40% glucose solutions intravenously, or 1 mg of glucagon intramuscularly should be given.
Mild hypoglycemia can be treated by administering sugar or products containing sugar.
